Summary of Policies and Procedures Regarding Sexual Misconduct

Sexual misconduct is contrary to the fundamental dignity of each and every human person, to the values of the gospel, and to the teachings of the Church.

Sexual misconduct by clergy or other personnel of the Diocese is wrong and is not tolerated.

The Diocese of Santa Rosa is responsible to see that everyone under its care, especially children and youth, are safe and in no danger from being victimized by sexual misconduct.

The Diocese offers immediate and appropriate care to victims and their families. The Diocese recognizes the severe harm to the spiritual and emotional well being of such victims and their families, and commits itself to justice, reconciliation and healing.

In all cases that allege sexual misconduct involving minors, the Diocese of Santa Rosa complies with the obligations of civil law by reporting the cases to legal authorities and cooperating with the investigation.

In all cases alleging sexual misconduct, should the allegation be supported by sufficient evidence, the accused cleric or other personnel is placed on administrative leave during which time determine concerning future employment/ministry is made.

The Diocese of Santa Rosa exercises open communication and dialogue with the community concerning sexual misconduct by its clergy or other personnel within the confines of respect for the privacy of the individuals involved.
