The Generations of Faith program, which begins October 8th and 12th, will be a 7 month program (on-going during the school year for the next several years). Parents and children will meet once a month at the parish, and the family will continue each particular lesson for 3 weeks at home. We will begin with classes for the families of 2nd and 3rd graders.
The Generation of Faith program is much more that the Parish School of Religion - it will involve the whole family and the whole parish in the ministry of religious education.
Registration for G.O.F. is now closed. Please call the PSR office 762-9063 if you wish to be placed on a waiting list.
When We Gather Each Month:
1. We Eat Together. Come, eat and enjoy while we share a meal and fellowship with one another. (No cooking, serving or clean up)
2. Whole Group Opening Experience. Introduction to all ages of the event or topic to be explored, using prayer, presentation, film, story, activity, etc.
3. Move Into Age-Specific Groups. In-depth learning and activities relating to the event or topic.
4. Whole Group Sharing Experience. Age groups come back together to share what they've learned and receive Home Kits to continue learning and living their faith at home.
5. The Home Kit. For use at home after our gathering. Prayers, activities, reading, etc. to reinforce and expand on the material of the event and help you prepare more fully for the subsequent liturgy or church event.
6. The Celebration in Liturgy and Church Events. Each person participates in more meaningful liturgies and church events and grows in understanding of the meaning and significance of the liturgies and events as they are woven into his or her life as a Catholic.
We are looking for volunteers to help us in bringing this program to St. James. 'Generations' gives families a way to deepen the faith of each member of their families, and it helps them share faith at home and encourages everyone to participate in the life of the church. Our core team members are: Nancy Brown, Ron Forsell, Lupe Enders, Vicky Nazzall, Karen Nau, Janet Adam, Roberta Guerra and Gloria Tienda. Please support them in their ministry by remembering them in your prayers. We meet monthly in the Parish Center. All parishioners are welcome to attend all meetings!
Top of the list of needs is facilitators. They need to be knowledgeable about our Faith and know how to lead small discussion groups. They need to understand the content of the lesson that particular evening. If you would like to volunteer to be a facilitator or serve in any other capacity in this critical program, please call Gloria, 762-9063. Click below to read the job descriptions.
Also, we are looking for people to help with child care for children up to 3 years of age. The responsibilities include creating and overseeing activities for these children. We are looking for adults and teenagers.
