Sunday Children's Liturgy We need more volunteers to share the Liturgy of the Word with our elementary grade children at the 11:00 a.m. Mass each Sunday. We have a flexible schedule and you would be teaching approximately once a month. If you have any questions or would like to teach, please call Teresa Roberts, 217-3191.

Youth Ministry

We will have a Prayer Service for the victims of the DARFUR genocide this Monday, August 25th, 7-8 p.m. in the church. There will be a short presentation to understand our call for prayer followed by a Prayer Service and a viewing and painting of our parish's Tent of Hope. Please join us and unite our prayers for change in the Sudan.

Our Adult Teams for both Junior High and High School will be meeting on August 26th, 7:30-9:00 p.m., in Room 2 of the Parish Center. Anyone interested in sharing your faith with the youth of our parish is welcome to attend.

The Diocese if offering a two day retreat for the training of new volunteers in Youth Ministry, September 20th and 21st. The retreat will be held in Occidental. Contact Nancy to register, 763-8122 or Nanhawk@comcast net

Project Conversation Spanish Join the group Friday mornings after the 9 o'clock Mass, 9:30-10:30 a.m. Those wanting to learn to speak Spanish and those wanting help speaking English will unite! Fr. Elementary

Rite of Christian Initiation of Children, (R.C.I.C.) We met with parents of our R.C.I.C. students this past week. R.C.I.C. classes will be held as follows: 1st year students, Wednesdays, 3:30-4:45 p.m. 2nd year students, Thursdays, 3:30-4:45 p.m. This program is for children who did not receive their Sacrament of Reconciliation or First Eucharist at the usual time and wish to do so. Please call the PSR office, to sign-up for R.C.I.C.

We are in need of 2 teachers for the Wednesday or Thursday classes. Please call the PRS office if you can volunteer for this important ministry.

New Families to Parish. If you are a new family in the parish and have a student (s) in grades Preschool to 6th, please come by the P.S.R. office which is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Also, please bring your student's baptismal certificate with you. We're looking forward to meeting you.

Needed: Catechists for Grades 1-6. If you want to see what P.S.R. is all about and like to help teach the children of our parish, please call Gloria at 762-9063.

St. James Women's Group

The Colombian Squires will be holding a Canned Food Drive for the Petaluma Kitchen...August 24th through August 31st. Please bring canned food and drop it in the boxes at all Masses. Thank you.

St. James Memorial Garden The installation of bricks is an on-going project. If you want to honor a family member or friend, living or deceased, please stop by the parish office for a form or call, and we will mail one to you. The cost of each brick is $50.00. Deadline for orders to be handed in at the rectory is September 1st for Fall installation. This weekend request forms may be found in the back of the church.

The 30th Annual Carmelite BBQ...is around the corner on Sunday, September 7th, from 2-6 p.m. Enjoy a great silent auction, a delicious steak dinner, all the trimmings, and Napa Valley wines on the lovely Oakville grounds. Pep Housing 30th Anniversary Celebration...Thursday, September 18th, 6-9 p.m., at the Petaluma Veterans Memorial Hall. The celebration will feature a sit down dinner followed by a live performance by members of the hit 1970's band Pablo Cruise. Hospice of Petaluma & Memorial Hospice ...are currently interviewing applicants for Caregiver/Bereavement Volunteer Training. Training focuses on preparing the volunteer to care for patients/families, and clients by covering the hospice philosophy, family dynamics, communication and listening, understanding loss, cycles of grief and spirituality. Volunteers have opportunity to provide service in patient/family homes, Skilled Nursing Facilities, and the Palliative Care and hospital settings.

In Petaluma, training begins Thursday, September 18th, through November 6th, 6-9 p.m., at Hospice of Petaluma, 416 Payran St.. $50 material fee. Continuing Education Units available.
